Troopers Search For Hit-and-Run Driver After Fatal Motorcycle Crash In Osceola County

POINCIANA, Fla. — Authorities are on the hunt for a driver involved in a fatal hit-and-run accident that claimed the life of a 24-year-old motorcyclist in Osceola County on Sunday night, May 20, 2024.

The Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) reported that the collision occurred just after 7:30 p.m. at the intersection of Monterey Road and Koa Street in Poinciana. According to FHP, the unknown driver was traveling southbound on Monterey Road when they approached a stop sign but failed to come to a complete stop and yield to the motorcyclist who was approaching from Koa Street.

The car struck the motorcycle, causing it to collide with the front of a Ford Explorer. The rider was pronounced dead at the scene, while the driver of the Ford Explorer, who remained at the scene and was unharmed, is cooperating with the investigation.

Troopers have recovered a car part at the scene, which they believe may belong to the suspect vehicle. They are now searching for a Mystic Green Metallic 2008 to 2010 Honda Accord, which should be missing its front bumper.

The FHP has emphasized the legal consequences of leaving the scene of an accident, particularly one involving injury or death. They urge anyone involved in such incidents to remain at the scene, ensure safety, and call for help.

Anyone with information about the crash or the suspect vehicle is encouraged to contact the FHP at 407-737-2213 or Crimeline at 1-800-423-TIPS.

What Would An Orlando Motorcycle Accident Attorney Do After A Hit-and-Run?

At David & Philpot, PL, we know that in the aftermath of a hit-and-run motorcycle accident, an Orlando motorcycle accident attorney plays a critical role in ensuring that victims receive the justice and compensation they deserve. Here’s how our lawyers can help:

  • Immediate Investigation: An attorney will promptly initiate an investigation to gather evidence related to the accident. This includes collecting police reports, speaking with witnesses, and inspecting the scene for any debris or car parts that might identify the hit-and-run driver. They may also work with accident reconstruction experts to understand the crash dynamics.
  • Identifying the Responsible Party: One of the primary tasks is to identify the at-fault driver. This might involve tracking down vehicle fragments left at the scene or utilizing surveillance footage from nearby cameras. In cases where the hit-and-run driver is unknown, the attorney can work with law enforcement to increase the chances of locating the perpetrator.
  • Dealing with Insurance Companies: A skilled attorney will handle interactions with insurance companies to ensure that victims receive fair compensation. This includes negotiating for coverage of medical expenses, lost wages, and pain and suffering. They will also address any issues that arise if the hit-and-run driver remains unidentified and you need to rely on your own insurance policy.
  • Filing Legal Claims: If the driver is located, your attorney will file a personal injury claim against them. If the driver remains at large, they will explore other legal avenues, such as filing a claim with your uninsured motorist coverage.
  • Representing You in Court: Should the case proceed to court, an attorney will provide expert representation, presenting evidence and advocating on your behalf to secure a favorable outcome.
