Literally dozens of recall notices are issued by auto manufacturers every year in an effort to correct defects or other manufacturing mistakes that could lead to accidents, injury, or death. Unfortunately, many vehicle owners either fail to act quickly on the recall notice or completely miss them in the vast amount of junk mail they receive on a daily basis. It is critically important to your safety and that of your family that you keep on the lookout for recall notices (particularly with newer vehicles) and take care of them immediately with your auto dealer or authorized repair center.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) recently took action to increase awareness of recall notices for consumers. On Tuesday February 18th 2014 they announced new mandatory label requirements for all recalls of consumer vehicles and products. The U.S. transportation secretary Anthony Foxx stated that “Recalls only work if consumers are aware of them”. The new label will help differentiate recall notices from other extended warranty and other solicitation direct mail pieces and hopefully reduce the accidental discarding of the notices.
